description

This two-day course will cover a practical introduction and exercises to
fitting and interpreting mixed (hierarchical or multilevel) models in R
using lme4 and other packages:

  • Brief repetition of linear, logistic and ordinal regression
  • Identifying and visualizing grouped data
  • Fitting and interpreting random intercept and slope models
  • Testing fixed and random effects, measures of effect size- Checking model assumptions
  • Fitting and understanding complex models with three levels or crossed-random effects
  • Approaches for non-normal responses (e.g., binary or ordinal)
  • Short outlook to generalized additive mixed and growth mixture models

Prerequisites

Basic familiarity with R syntax and some experience with data analysis
in R (loading data, fitting models, using the built-in graphics
functions). Familiarity and some practical experience with regression
modeling.
